Memorial Day Road Trip 2011

It was a good day to be in the Park. We saw a lot of buffalo, geese, elk and people.

One black bear
Water running very, very fast
Another black bear
We were looking a mommy brown bear and her two cubs. My camera doesn't take good pictures far away. The little family was about 75 yards from the truck. If you got in the truck you could see them better so we had two or three families pile in with us.
We had a snowball fight at one of our stops. These girls are our friends granddaughters. They got Papa really good.

There is still a lot of snow up high. It didn't get any warmer than 40 degrees.
The ever famous Old Faithful doing its thing.
We sat in the lodge to watch the geyser go off.
This little one was just hours old.

Spicy Honey-Garlic Wings

On a rainy day in May, we tried a new recipe in the Traeger grill.
And yep they were finger lickin' good.
Spicy Honey-Garlic Wings
2 1/2 pounds large chicken wings (I used some legs)
Traeger Pork and Poultry Shake or your favorite barbecue rub
4T butter
3 cloves garlic
1/2 cup Frank's Red Hot sauce
1/4 cup honey, or more to taste
1-1/2 cups blue cheese or ranch dressing.

1. Cut the wings into three pieces through the joints. Discard the wing tips. Transfer the remaining "drumettes" and "flats"to a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or nonstick aluminum foil, and arrange them in a single layer. Season well with the Traeger Pork and Poultry Shake.
2. Make the spicy honey-garlic sauce. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Add the garlic and saute or 2 to 3 minutes until it softens (do not let it color). Stir in the hot sauce and honey and cook for several minutes to blend the flavors. Keep warm.
3. When read to cook, preheat oven or grill to 350 degrees.
4. Put the baking sheets with the wings into the over or on the grill grate. Cook for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink at the bone. Pour enough spicy honey-garlic sauce over the wings to coat them on both sides, turning with tongs. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes more to set the sauce. Serve with the blue cheese or ranch dressing. ENJOY!

Fire Station 2011

Today was a field trip with the Kindergarten kids at Dworshak. We had a picnic at Storybook Park and then we were off to the Fire Station.
One very brave kindergarten teacher kinda volunteered to be the target.
Where is she?
About half way through it started to rain and we were all soaked by the time we got all the kids back on th bus. The kids were so good and they really enjoyed shooting the target with the foam gun.

Jr. Miss 2011

I was a hostess mom again this year for the Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship Program (aka Jr. Miss). This year had extra meaning for me. I change this young ladies diaper. Yes, I am getting old. She was a joy to work with.
Me, Steph and Jenny at the dinner after the interviews.
We had a lot of great people donate to the program and we won the most tickets sold and the first donations turned in. Thanks to all who make this program such a success.
She made it in the top 10 and won a pot load of money in scholarships.
Last minute run through of questions for the final night. Stephanie won an interview scholarship, fitness scholarship and self-expression scholarship.

Mother's Day

This little man joined us for dinner. He is quite the eater.
Kona and Jared invited us over for Sunday dinner. She is a very good cook. We had Mexican haystacks, raspberry salad, fruit salsa and a yummy dessert, Mississippi Mud with ice cream. It was so nice to just enjoy dinner. Thanks, Kona and Jared. Love you!

Happy Mother's Day to Chalet, Mindy and Heather. Hope your day was great with your family.
